Roblox Rolls Out New Safety and Creator Updates

Roblox is entering one of its biggest platform-change periods in years, and the updates matter whether you are a casual player, a parent-managed player, or someone who creates games inside Roblox Studio. The most important upcoming change is the launch of two new age-based account types: Roblox Kids for users aged 5 to 8 and Roblox Select for users aged 9 to 15. These accounts are expected to roll out in early June 2026, with different content access, chat settings, and parental controls depending on the player's age. For younger players, this could mean a safer but more limited Roblox experience. For older teen players, it may mean more freedom than a Kids account, but still with stronger safeguards than a standard account.

The biggest player-facing change is content access. Roblox Kids accounts will only be able to access games labeled with lower-intensity content, while Roblox Select accounts will have access to a wider range that can include moderate content. Roblox also says certain types of experiences, such as sensitive-topic games, social hangouts, and free-form drawing games, will not be included by default for these younger account categories. This is important because Roblox is no longer treating all under-16 users in the same way. A player's account type may directly affect which games appear, which games can be joined, and how social features work.

Chat is another major part of the update. Roblox has already been moving toward stronger age checks for chat access, and the company is now tying communication features more closely to verified age and account category. Roblox Kids accounts will have chat turned off by default unless a linked parent account allows it. Roblox Select accounts may get chat features gradually, depending on the user's region and safeguards. For players, this means the social side of Roblox could feel different. Some friends may not be able to chat the same way, join the same kinds of experiences, or use the same communication tools after the new account structure arrives.

The safety changes are also affecting creators. Recent reporting on Roblox's new publishing requirements says that creators who want to publish content available to all ages may need ID verification, two-factor authentication, and an active Roblox Plus subscription. Games may also go through a new evaluation process. Roblox's safety chief has acknowledged that age checks are unpopular, but argued that the platform needs stronger systems to keep access open globally and respond to parent and policy concerns. For players, the effect may be indirect but noticeable: some smaller creators could slow down publishing, while bigger studios may adapt faster to the new rules.

At the same time, Roblox is trying to make game creation faster with new AI-powered tools inside Roblox Studio. Roblox has introduced agentic AI features designed to help creators plan, build, and test experiences more quickly. One highlighted feature, Planning Mode, can break a creator's game idea into editable tasks. Another upcoming feature, Procedural Model Generation, is meant to help objects adjust more intelligently during building. Roblox is also adding AI playtesting agents that can test whether a game matches the creator's original goals.

This could have a big effect on players because Roblox's best experiences often come from independent creators experimenting quickly. If AI tools lower the time needed to prototype and test games, players may see more polished updates, faster event cycles, and more experimental genres. The downside is that Roblox may also see even more low-effort AI-assisted games if creators use the tools carelessly. The winners will probably be creators who use AI to speed up boring production work while still designing strong gameplay, maps, progression systems, and community events.

Roblox is also openly pushing for more ambitious games aimed at older audiences. In March 2026, the company announced the Roblox Incubator and Jumpstart Programs, designed to support creators building bigger experiences with genres such as RPGs, strategy games, and shooters. Roblox said these programs are part of its plan to expand beyond the classic Roblox style and serve a broader audience. The company also noted that older age-checked users represent a major growth opportunity, especially as the 18-34 audience grows quickly in the U.S.

For players, the message is clear: Roblox in 2026 is becoming more divided by age, more controlled around safety, and more ambitious in game quality. Younger users may get a more protected version of the platform. Teen and adult players may see more mature genres and better-produced experiences. Creators will face more checks, but also receive stronger AI tools and new support programs. This is not just a small patch or seasonal event. It is a larger shift in how Roblox wants to balance safety, creativity, social play, and long-term growth.
