Fishdom is a match-3 puzzle game that also lets you build and decorate virtual aquariums. I started playing it on Android during a long commute, and honestly, it is one of those games that seems simple at first but ends up pulling you in for longer sessions than you expect. The core loop is familiar to anyone who has played match-3 games before you swap colorful tiles on a grid to complete objectives like collecting shells or clearing jelly. What sets the experience apart is the aquarium building part. Between levels, you earn coins and stars that let you buy new fish, plants, decorations, and backgrounds for your tank. That visual reward keeps me going when I fail a hard level. I downloaded it from Google Play, and the app itself is free with ads and optional in-game purchases. You can watch a short ad to get extra moves on a level if you are about to fail, but you are never forced to buy anything to progress at a normal pace. The install count is huge because this style of game appeals to both casual players and people who enjoy a long-term progression system.

The actual gameplay is all about the match-3 puzzles. You tap or drag to swap adjacent tiles and make matches of three or more. Some levels require you to clear a certain number of colored tiles, while others ask you to bring down items like keys or treasure chests to the bottom of the board. The controls are smooth on a touchscreen, and the tile animations feel satisfying when combos chain together. The difficulty ramps up slowly. I cruised through the first few dozen levels without thinking much, but around level 80, I started needing to plan my moves carefully. The game gives you power-ups like bombs and line blasters, but you have to use them at the right moment or you will waste them. What I enjoyed most was the sense of progress. Every time I beat a hard level, I got enough coins to add a new fish or a bubbling treasure chest decoration to my tank. That made the puzzle section feel connected to the aquarium part, not just separate mini-games slapped together.

Compared to other match-3 games like Homescapes or Gardenscapes, Fishdom feels more focused on the aquarium theme rather than a story-driven home renovation. Playrix makes all these games, so the mechanics are similar, but the tone here is more relaxed. In Homescapes, you are fixing up a mansion and following a storyline about a butler. In Fishdom, you just build tanks and watch fish swim around. I personally prefer this format because it does not try to force a narrative on me. The puzzles are similarly challenging, but the aquarium customization offers more freedom to be creative. Another popular game in this genre is Toy Blast, but that one lacks the building element entirely. If you like matching tiles and also want a relaxing place to show off your taste in decorations, Fishdom is a solid pick. It does not reinvent the genre, but it executes the core formula well.

features

  • 🐠 Match-3 puzzles with clear objectives. Each level has a specific goal like clearing jelly tiles, collecting shells, or connecting items. You have a limited number of moves, so every swap matters. Power-ups build up as you match more tiles in a single turn, giving you useful bombs and rockets for tough spots.
  • 🐠 Aquarium building and decoration. You start with a simple empty tank and gradually fill it with colorful fish, plants, castles, and other items. Each fish has its own swimming pattern, and the animations make the tank feel alive. This is what keeps me coming back after failing a hard level.
  • 🐠 Boosters and helpers that can be earned without paying. You get free power-ups by logging in daily or completing special events. You can also watch a short ad to earn extra moves on a level. This makes the game feel fair even if you never spend real money.
  • 🐠 Regular events and limited-time challenges. The developers add new levels every few weeks and seasonal events with exclusive decorations. This gives long-time players new goals beyond the standard level progression. It keeps the game feeling fresh over months of play.

pros

  • The aquarium customization is very satisfying. Choosing where to place each decoration and watching the fish react to them is relaxing. It feels like a small creative outlet between puzzle challenges.
  • The difficulty curve is smooth. Early levels teach you the basics without pressure, and the harder stages become genuinely tricky without feeling unfair. You never hit an impossible wall.
  • You do not need to watch ads or make purchases to enjoy the full experience. The optional ads for extra moves are short and not pushed aggressively. The game respects your time.
  • The visuals are bright and polished. The underwater theme with vibrant corals and glowing fish is easy on the eyes. The sound effects from bubbles and fish splashing add a calm atmosphere.

cons

  • Some levels feel repetitive after a while. The objectives are reused often, and the core tile-swapping does not change much. Playing for more than an hour in one sitting can feel monotonous.
  • The wait for energy to refill can slow you down. You get a limited number of lives, and when you run out, you have to wait or ask friends for extra lives. This interrupts long play sessions.
  • If you are not interested in decorating virtual aquariums, the building part may feel like a chore. Some players just want to solve puzzles without the aquarium management getting in the way.
