My Stories: Choose Chapters is an interactive story game that lands somewhere between a visual novel and a choose-your-own-adventure book on Android. I picked it up on Google Play a few weeks ago after burning through a couple of similar apps, and honestly, it feels like a solid option if you are into narrative-driven mobile games. The basic idea is straightforward: you read through chapters of different stories, make choices at key moments, and those choices shape how the plot unfolds. It is a free download with in-app purchases for premium choices or extra chapters, and there are ads between some segments, which is pretty standard for this kind of app. If you have played games like Choices or Episode, you will get the general vibe here, but My Stories seems to focus more on a wider variety of genres within the same app, from romance to mystery and even some fantasy.

The core gameplay loop is simple but effective. You tap through text, see character art on the screen, and when a decision point comes up, you pick one of usually two or three options. The controls are just taps and swipes, so it is easy to play one-handed on the bus or before bed. What I liked most was how the choices actually felt meaningful in some of the stories. In one mystery chapter, picking the wrong dialogue option made me miss a clue, and I had to replay the section to get a better outcome. The stories are split into episodes, and each one takes maybe ten to fifteen minutes to get through, which makes it easy to play in short bursts. The writing quality varies depending on which story you choose, but overall, it is above average for the genre. Some of the romance plots are a bit cliche, but the fantasy and thriller ones surprised me with decent twists.

Compared to other story apps like Chapters: Interactive Stories or Romance Club, My Stories feels a bit more polished in terms of interface and loading times. The art style is also cleaner and more consistent across different stories, which is something that bothered me in other apps where each story looked like it was drawn by a different person. However, the number of stories available at launch is smaller than what you get in Choices or Episode, so if you are a heavy reader, you might run out of content faster. The ticket system, where you need to wait for energy or spend gems to unlock premium choices, is similar to what most games in this genre use. It is not perfect, but it is not any worse than the competition. If you are looking for a free interactive story app with good visuals and a decent variety of genres, My Stories is worth a try.

features

  • 🔹 Choice-based storytelling with consequences – Every decision you make changes the story in some way. I tested this by replaying a chapter with different choices, and the outcome was completely different the second time. It is not just cosmetic; the story actually branches.
  • 🔹 Multiple story genres in one app – Instead of being stuck with one theme, you get romance, mystery, fantasy, and drama all in the same app. I personally liked the mystery stories more because they had puzzles to solve, not just dialogue choices.
  • 🔹 Clean visual presentation – The character art is consistent and well-drawn. Unlike some other story apps where the art looks cheap or mismatched, My Stories keeps a uniform style that makes the whole app feel more professional.
  • 🔹 Episode-based format with reasonable length – Each episode takes about 10-15 minutes to finish, which is perfect for a quick session. You can easily play one episode during a break without feeling like you have to stop in the middle of a chapter.

pros

  • Smooth and responsive touch controls that make reading and choosing feel natural
  • Genuinely branching storylines where your choices matter, not just fake options
  • Good variety of genres, so you are not stuck reading the same type of story over and over
  • The free content is generous enough that you can play several chapters before hitting a paywall

cons

  • The ticket system limits how many chapters you can play in a row, which can be frustrating during a long session
  • Some stories feel shorter than others, and the library is still smaller than older apps in the genre
  • Ads pop up between chapters, and they can be a bit long if you are not connected to Wi-Fi
  • A few premium choices feel overpriced for what they unlock, especially in the romance stories
