Level Devil - NOT A Troll Game is a precision platformer that feels like a direct challenge to the modern "troll game" genre, where the level itself tries to trick you at every turn. I picked this up on Android after seeing it on Google Play, and honestly, it stood out because it promises not to be a troll game, but then it absolutely plays with your expectations in a way that feels fair. You jump, you die, you restart, and that loop is the entire game. It's the kind of experience that's perfect for short bursts—waiting for a bus or killing a few minutes—because each level is small and punchy. The install is small, and from what I remember, it's a free download with some ads, which is pretty standard for mobile platformers. There's no complex story or RPG mechanics here; it's all about mastering the jump and navigating the spiky, saw-filled levels that look deceptively simple.

The gameplay is all about timing and remembering the layout. You control a little square character with simple tap controls: one tap to jump, and that's about it. But the genius is in the level design. You'll see a path, jump towards it, and then a block will slide out when you land, or a spike will pop up from the floor right when you think you're safe. It's not random chaos, though. Every death teaches you something about what's coming next. The game builds on its own systems, adding moving platforms, crumbling blocks, and saw blades that follow you. The most fun I had was in the later levels where the game started introducing fake drops and hidden paths. You have to unlearn your instinct to trust the visible ground, and that's a really cool feeling for a platformer. The frustration is there, but it's the good kind of frustration where you know you can beat it if you just get the timing right one more time.

Compared to other mobile platformers like Geometry Dash or even the original I Wanna Be the Guy-inspired games, Level Devil - NOT A Troll Game carves a specific niche. Geometry Dash is all about rhythm and auto-scrolling, while this is about stop-start precision and memory. It's closer to something like The End is Nigh or even a less punishing version of Super Meat Boy, but on mobile. The difference here is that it's built for touch controls, so the difficulty comes from the level design, not from a clunky virtual d-pad. Other "troll" games often feel unfair, with traps that you couldn't possibly predict on the first try. This one feels like it's testing your patience and your ability to adapt, rather than your luck. If you like games where you die a lot but feel like you're getting better with each attempt, this is a solid pick over the wave of identical runner games on the Play Store.

features

  • 🟢 Intelligent level design: Every obstacle has a clear cause and effect. You die, you learn, you adapt. It's not random, and that makes the grind feel productive.
  • 🟢 Tight touch controls: The one-tap jump is responsive and precise. I never felt like the game cheated me because of laggy controls, which is a big plus for mobile platformers.
  • 🟢 Short, replayable levels: Each stage takes maybe 30 seconds to a minute once you know it. This makes it perfect for playing on the go, and the constant retries don't feel tedious because the levels are bite-sized.

pros

  • ➡️ The satisfaction of beating a hard room after ten tries is really rewarding. It feels earned.
  • ➡️ The visual style is clean and simple. You can always see what's a threat and what's safe, no visual clutter.
  • ➡️ No unfair RNG. Every death is your fault or your timing, which is a core part of what makes these games fun.

cons

  • ⬅️ The music is repetitive. After a while, you'll probably mute it and play your own tunes, which is a shame for a game about rhythm and timing.
  • ⬅️ Ads can pop up between levels, especially after a few deaths. It breaks the flow when you're in the zone.
  • ⬅️ The game is short. If you're good, you can beat the main content in a couple of hours, and there's not much reason to replay levels outside of chasing perfect runs.
