Brainova: IQ Test & Logic Game is a great little mental workout app from developer FALCON GAME. I first stumbled across it while searching for something to keep my mind sharp during my commute. It's a collection of visual puzzles and logic games designed to challenge your reasoning, memory, and spatial awareness. The app has been around for a few years now and is available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. I personally downloaded it from Google Play, and the install count is pretty decent, which made me think it was worth a shot. It is completely free to download, and you can start playing immediately without any registration, which I really appreciate. However, like most free apps these days, it does include ads and offers in-app purchases for things like removing those ads or unlocking extra game packs. I've seen a rating of around 4.2 stars on the platform, which I think is fair. The target audience seems to be anyone from students to adults who enjoy a quick brain teaser. I usually play it for ten minutes while waiting for my coffee or before bed. It's not the most complex app out there, but it does exactly what it says.
Getting started with the Brainova app is straightforward. Once you install it, you are presented with a clean interface that lists different puzzle categories. You just tap one, and the game begins. The puzzles are mostly visual, asking you to find the odd one out, complete a pattern, or solve a sequence. I found that the key is to not overthink things. The first time I played, I tried to be too analytical and wasted my hints. A good tip is to use the hint button sparingly and only when you are truly stuck, as they are a limited resource unless you pay for more. Another tip is to practice the speed rounds because they really help improve your reaction time. You can also repeat completed tests to see if you can improve your score, which is a great way to track your progress. Sometimes the logic is tricky, but taking a short break and coming back to a puzzle with fresh eyes usually helps me see the solution. The app doesn't have a huge tutorial, so you learn by doing, which I actually prefer.
I have tried a few other similar apps like Brain Test and IQ Boost, but I keep coming back to this one for a couple of reasons. For starters, Brainova feels less like a gimmick and more like a genuine test. The puzzles in other apps often rely on cheesy trick questions, but this app sticks to real logic and pattern recognition. It feels more academic, and I trust the results a bit more, even though it's just a game. Plus, the timing feature adds a nice layer of pressure that simulates a real IQ test scenario, which I don't get from other casual brain games. The design is also cleaner and less cartoony, which makes me feel like an adult using a serious app rather than a toy. So while I enjoy hopping onto other apps for a laugh, this FALCON GAME app is the one I recommend for actual mental practice.
features
- 🧩 Visual Logic Puzzles: This is where the app shines the brightest. Unlike some games that rely on text-based riddles, Brainova focuses purely on shapes and patterns. It reminds me a lot of classic puzzle tests like Mensa, but in app form. Other apps like “Brain Test” often use silly solutions that make you tap the wrong spot, which gets old fast. Here, every puzzle has a real logical answer, and I feel like I'm actually exercising my brain.
- 📊 Performance Tracking: The app gives you a detailed breakdown of your strengths and weaknesses after each session. You can see your percentiles for different categories like memory, logic, and spatial reasoning. This is much more insightful than what I get from “Lumosity,” which just gives you a generic score. I love being able to see that my spatial reasoning is strong but my memory needs work, so I can focus my time better.
- ⏱️ Timed Modes: There is a dedicated speed challenge where you have to answer as many questions as possible in a set time. This is a feature missing from many free apps like “Elevate.” The timer adds a genuine stress test that helps improve your quick-thinking skills. I find this mode addictive and perfect for a quick burst of concentration.
- 🎨 Clean and Minimalist Interface: I really appreciate that the app doesn't bombard me with flashy colors or confusing menus. It's very black and white, with clear fonts and buttons. Compared to apps like “Peak,” which can feel a bit cluttered, Brainova is a breath of fresh air. It lets the puzzles be the main focus without any visual noise.
pros
- 👍 Completely Free Access: Many similar apps, like “IQ Boost,” lock half the content behind a premium paywall. With Brainova, you can access all the core game modes and a huge library of puzzles from the very first download without spending a dime. You only pay if you want to remove the ads.
- 👍 No Account Needed: I hate apps that force you to sign up with an email or Facebook account before you can even see the main menu. Brainova lets you start playing instantly. Apps like “Gravity” make you create a profile first, which is a hassle. This is a huge plus for privacy and convenience.
- 👍 Genuine Logic Focus: The app prioritizes real cognitive assessment over silly humor. While other apps use memes and cheap trick answers, this one feels like a serious tool. It makes the results feel more valid and worth sharing, which isn't something I can say for most of the other puzzle games on the Google Play store.
cons
- 👎 Frequent Ads: You can't get away from them. After every single puzzle, you get a full-screen video ad. I understand the app is free, but it breaks the flow completely. Apps like “Quick Brain” show fewer ads between rounds. It makes me consider buying the remove-ads purchase just for the peace and quiet.
- 👎 Limited Variety of Test Types: After a few weeks, the puzzles start to feel repetitive. The core logic style doesn't change much. Competing apps like “Mensa IQ Test” offer a broader range of question styles, like verbal and numerical reasoning. I wish this app would add more variety in a future update to keep it fresh.
- 👎 Hint Economy is Harsh: You get very few free hints per day, and they cost a lot of in-app currency to buy more. Other apps give you a steady stream of free hints. I've found myself stuck on a few puzzles with no way to get a clue without paying, which is frustrating for a casual user.
