Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is an open-world action game, and it is the kind of title that pulls you into its world almost immediately. I first played the original version years ago, and coming back to this enhanced edition on PC felt familiar but sharper. You start in Los Santos as Franklin, Michael, or Trevor, and the game lets you switch between them as the story unfolds. The opening missions ease you into driving, shooting, and the basics of the city without throwing everything at you at once. It is easy to see why this game attracts so many players. The city feels alive, the radio stations are fun to listen to, and the missions have a mix of serious and absurd moments. You can play it on PC through Steam, the Rockstar Games Launcher, and Epic Games Store, and console versions exist too, though the enhanced edition is the PC-focused version. I picked it up on PC, installed it through the launcher, and the download was large but the install process was straightforward. The game has been around for a long time and has sold a massive number of copies, so finding players is never an issue. It is a premium game rather than a free app, and there are in-game purchases in GTA Online, but the single-player story is complete without spending extra.

The core loop is simple: drive somewhere, talk to someone, shoot or steal something, and escape. What makes GTA V Enhanced work is how much freedom you have between those steps. You can follow the story missions, but you can also rob stores, race, play tennis, or just drive around listening to the radio. The shooting feels responsive, and the driving model has weight without being frustrating. I spent a lot of time in the enhanced version just exploring the city and trying stunt jumps. The three-character switching is still one of my favorite parts, especially when a mission uses all three at once. The controls are standard for a third-person action game, and the cover system works well enough once you get used to it. Missions vary in length, and some heist setups take a while to plan, but that planning is part of the fun. The enhanced edition adds better visuals and smoother performance, which makes the city look better than before. It can take time to learn the map and the fastest routes, but that learning curve is part of the experience.

Compared with games like Saints Row, Watch Dogs, or Sleeping Dogs, GTA V Enhanced feels more like a full city simulation than a focused action game. Saints Row leans more into comedy and over-the-top customization, while Watch Dogs focuses on hacking and stealth. GTA V Enhanced gives you a bit of everything, and the story mode is longer and more detailed than most open-world games in the same space. The driving and shooting are not as tight as some dedicated shooters, but the variety keeps it interesting. If you want a game where you can jump between a serious crime story and pure chaos, this one is hard to beat. Players who prefer a shorter, more linear experience may find the pacing slow, but for open-world fans, it offers a lot of content.

features

  • Character switching 🔁 You can swap between Franklin, Michael, and Trevor during and outside missions, and each has different stats and special abilities. This makes missions feel more varied than in most open-world games.
  • Mission variety 🎯 The game mixes heists, chases, shootouts, and quieter story moments. Planning a heist and choosing your approach gives you some control over how it plays out.
  • Open-world freedom 🚗 Los Santos is packed with side activities like races, property missions, and random events. You can ignore the story for hours and still find things to do, which is close to what Saints Row offers but with a more grounded tone.
  • GTA Online 🌐 The online mode adds co-op missions, races, and businesses you can run with friends. It is a separate experience from the story, and some content relies on in-game purchases, but it extends the playtime a lot.

pros

  • The city feels alive 🏙️ Traffic, weather, and random events make Los Santos feel busy in a way that few open-world games match.
  • Story missions are memorable 🎬 The heists and character moments are well directed, and the three-character setup keeps the story moving.
  • Driving and shooting feel good 🚙 The controls are easy to pick up, and chases are exciting without being too punishing.
  • Lots of replay value 🔄 You can approach missions differently, and the online mode adds more reasons to come back after the story.

cons

  • Large download and install size 💾 The enhanced edition takes up a lot of space, and lower-end PCs may struggle with the visuals.
  • Online mode can feel grindy ⏳ Some GTA Online content takes a lot of time or in-game purchases to unlock, which can slow down progress.
  • Story pacing slows down in places 🐢 Some missions feel like setup for bigger moments, and the map can feel overwhelming at first.
  • Controls take adjustment 🎮 The cover system and vehicle handling are not as tight as some dedicated action games, so it may take a few hours to feel comfortable.
