Shazam: Find Music & Concerts is a music identification app that's been a lifesaver for me for years. It's basically a magic ear for your phone. You hear a song playing somewhere—on the radio, in a cafe, in a movie—and you just tap the big button in the app. In a few seconds, it tells you the artist, title, and album. It's incredibly accurate and has saved me from countless "what's that song?" headaches. The app first launched way back in 2002, which is ancient in app years, and it's been owned by Apple since 2018. You can download it for free from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and it has over a billion installs globally. You don't need to register to use the core song-identifying feature, which is great. There are some in-app ads, but they're not too intrusive. If you want to remove ads and get some extra features like offline identification, there's a subscription option, but the free version is perfectly powerful on its own.

Using the app is dead simple. I just open it and let it listen. A cool tip is that you can also use it with headphones on; it still picks up the external music just fine. I often use the auto-Shazam feature when I'm driving, which keeps it listening in the background so I don't have to fumble with my phone. All the songs you identify get saved to your history, and you can connect the app to Spotify or Apple Music to save them to a playlist instantly. It's become my go-to tool for building new playlists based on songs I discover out in the world.

Compared to other music finder apps like SoundHound, I've always stuck with Shazam. For me, it's just faster and more reliable. SoundHound lets you hum a tune, which Shazam doesn't, but I find I rarely need that. When I'm trying to catch a song before it ends, speed is everything, and Shazam consistently delivers. The integration with Apple Music and Spotify is also smoother in my experience. While other apps exist, Shazam feels like the original and most polished option. It does one job and does it exceptionally well, which is why it's still on my home screen after all this time.

• 🎵 Instant Music Discovery: The core feature is lightning-fast. Tap the button, and within seconds, you have the song's name, artist, and links to stream or buy it. It feels almost magical every time.
• 📻 Live TV & Auto Recognition: A standout feature I love is identifying songs from TV shows or movies in real-time. The auto-Shazam mode is perfect for this, running in the background to catch every track during a show.
• 🎧 Seamless Playlist Integration: Once a song is identified, you can send it directly to your Spotify or Apple Music library with one tap. This makes building a discovery playlist effortless compared to manually searching in your music app.
• 🎫 Concert & Music Video Links: Beyond just naming the song, the app often shows upcoming concert dates for the artist and links to the official music video on YouTube, turning a simple ID into a full fan experience.

• ⚡ Unbeatable Speed & Accuracy: In side-by-side tests with apps like SoundHound, Shazam consistently identifies songs faster and more accurately, especially in noisy environments.
• 🔗 Deep Platform Integration: Being an Apple-owned app, its integration with iOS and Siri is seamless. On Android, its Google Play version also works flawlessly with Google Assistant.
• 🆓 Truly Functional Free Tier: Unlike some competitors that heavily restrict free uses, Shazam's free version has no limits on identifications, making it the most generous in its genre.
• 📚 Massive Music Database: With nearly two decades of data, its song library seems endless, reliably identifying obscure tracks that newer apps sometimes miss.

• 🎤 No Hum/Sing Search: Unlike SoundHound, you can't hum or sing a tune to find a song. If you only remember the melody, you're out of luck with this app.
• 📱 Battery Drain in Auto Mode: Keeping the auto-Shazam feature on for extended periods, like during a long drive, noticeably drains your phone's battery faster.
• 🎵 Limited Music Player Features: It's purely an identification tool. Apps like Musixmatch offer synchronized lyrics, which Shazam doesn't, making it less feature-rich for music lovers.
• 📺 Occasional Miss on TV/Film Scores: While great with songs, it sometimes struggles to identify instrumental film scores or very obscure background music in TV shows.
