I first stumbled upon Spider Hero Video Prank Call on Google Play a few months ago, and honestly, I didn't expect much from a free prank app. It's made by Game Dot Studio, and it's basically a tool that lets you simulate fake video calls from a Spider-Man-like character. You download it, and it instantly gives you a fake incoming call screen with a masked hero on the other end. The app has been around since around 2021, and it's available on both the Google Play store and the Apple App Store, so pretty much anyone with a smartphone can install it without any trouble.

The install count on Google Play is pretty high, over ten million downloads last time I checked, and it's completely free to download. You don't need to register an account or hand over your email just to use it, which is rare these days. There are in-app purchases though, mostly to unlock extra video clips or remove the occasional banner ad that pops up. The rating sits around 4.2 stars, which seems fair for what it is. It's not a deep or complex tool, it's just a silly way to prank your friends or family.

When I use it, the whole thing is straightforward. You pick a fake contact, choose the Spider Hero video you want to show, and then hit the trigger button. A fake call screen appears, and when you swipe to answer, the video plays full screen as if it's a live FaceTime or WhatsApp call. If you want to make it more convincing, you can set a timer so the call comes in at a specific time, like when your friend is in a meeting. One tip I've learned is to keep the phone's volume low before starting the prank, because the default ringtone is super loud and can blow the surprise. Also, if you're using it on a real phone, make sure you have a stable internet connection or the video clip might buffer, which kills the illusion.

Compared to other prank call apps like Fake Call Restroom or Prank Caller, this one wins for me because it focuses on video instead of just audio. Most similar apps on Google Play are just fake text messages or voice calls, but this one has actual pre-recorded video clips of a heroic character talking to you. It feels more real when your friend sees a face on the screen. Another app called Fake Video Call Maker does something similar, but it's clunkier and the videos are lower quality. Spider Hero Video Prank Call is smoother, loads faster, and the clips are longer, so the joke lasts longer before they catch on.

features

  • 🎥 The standout thing here is the realistic video call interface. It looks almost identical to a real incoming video call on an Android phone, complete with the green answer button and red decline button. When you answer, the Spider Hero character moves, talks, and even reacts like they're waiting for your response. Other apps like Fake Call Restroom only give you a static image or a looping audio clip, so this feels way more immersive.
  • 📅 The scheduled call feature is a game changer. You can set the prank to happen at a specific time, say 15 minutes from now, and the app will automatically ring at that moment. This is perfect for setting up a prank when you're not even holding the phone, like if you leave it on the table during lunch. Most other prank apps on Google Play require you to press a button right when you want to fake the call, which is less flexible.
  • 🔄 There's a huge library of video clips, over 30 different ones actually. Some are funny, some are scary, and some are just plain weird. You can pick a clip based on the situation, like a serious one for a work prank or a silly one for a friend. The quality of the videos is pretty sharp too, way better than what I've seen in Prank Caller or similar apps, which often use blurry compressed footage.

pros

  • 😄 The app is incredibly easy to use. There's no learning curve at all, just open it, set your fake contact name, and go. I've tried Fake Video Call Maker before, and that interface was a mess with too many menus. This one on Google Play feels clean and simple.
  • 📲 It works offline after you download the video clips. That's a huge plus because when I'm at a friend's house with bad Wi-Fi, I can still pull off the prank without lag or failure. Other apps like Prank Caller need a constant internet connection, which ruins everything when the network drops.
  • ⭐ The customization options are better than most. You can change the caller's name, add a phone number, even set a different profile picture for the fake caller. It's a small touch, but it makes the prank way more believable than what I've seen in similar tools.

cons

  • 📢 The free version has ads at the bottom of the screen, and they appear after every prank you complete. It's not terrible, but it breaks the flow if you're trying to do multiple calls in a row. Fake Call Restroom does the same thing, but their ads are less intrusive.
  • 📶 Some video clips buffer if your phone is older or has low RAM. I'm using a budget device, and occasionally the video freezes for a second before resuming. The app hasn't crashed on me, but it's noticeable compared to Prank Caller, which runs smoothly on any hardware.
  • 🔕 The fake call notification sound is fixed, you can't change the ringtone. That's annoying because some people know the default sound and might get suspicious. Other apps on Google Play let you pick a custom ringtone from your own files, which this one doesn't offer.
